Brocade inspired by a historical medieval pattern. A good choice for authentic looking medieval clothing and decorations as well as modern interiors and contemporary fashions. Stunning brocade made of top-quality synthetic fibers with a woven pattern.
This fabric is inspired by a textile sample woven in Granada, Spain, in the 14th to 15th centuries under the Nasrid dynasty. The rich woven mosaic is a fine example of the non-figurative design typical of Islamic art of that period. The pattern here features interlacing octagons set in poly-lobed medallions with floral motifs and arabesques.
These and similar geometrical designs were popular not only in textiles but also in tilework, woodwork and stucco ornaments, as at the Alhambra palace in Granada.
The original textile can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
This pattern reconstruction is the intellectual property of SARTOR BOHEMIA.
This historical brocade is a sturdy Jacquard weave made with top-quality synthetic fibers. It is striking for its vivid color, effective use of alternating weaving techniques and structural relief.
This brocade is slightly sturdier than silk blend brocade. It holds its shape beautifully, and the addition of rayon makes it comfortable to wear.
Reproductions of period brocades such as this are perfect for sewing historical costumes and also bring something special to modern interiors or contemporary fashions.
We recommend using a sturdy lining under this brocade, such as serge, satin, or habotai.
This fabric can be hand washed at 30°C, but it will shrink and crinkle slightly. To avoid this, we recommend dry cleaning at a reliable dry cleaner. Unlike silk brocade, this fabric will not soften when laundered. Iron on the back side on a synthetics setting; if the fabric has been pre-shrunk, you may use steam.
Rarely! We produce reproductions of historical fabrics as limited editions. We want to guarantee a certain authenticity to all owners of historical costumes and decorations. We recommend that you buy these fabrics while they are in stock, as this is the only way to secure them for your project aside from custom ordering.
Limited editions are fabrics of exceptional quality or patterns that have been designed and produced exclusively under the Sartor brand. As a rule, they do not repeat and are therefore only available while supplies last. Don't miss your chance to own a true original.
The minimum fabric order is a length of 20 cm.
Of course! Historical patterns are characterized by high-quality aesthetic workmanship with an emphasis on elegance and harmony, which make them timeless works of art. They are suitable for modern interiors, where they bring an element of originality (try a picture, a pillow). In fashion, they excel in simple, even minimalist, garments, handbags and other accessories.
