Linen voile is an ultralight fabric made of very fine linen yarn. Its higher thread count sets it apart from other featherweights like gauze and muslin. Linen is not often available at such low weights, which is surprising when you consider that it has so much to recommend it over cotton in this category – it’s more durable, cooler, more breathable, and better at wicking away moisture.
A good choice for summer fashions like light blouses, tunics, shirts, and dresses, linen voile also makes a great lining and is perfect for historical undergarments. Just the thing for linen curtains, voile is opaque but allows some light through for an elegant look.
This fabric dyes well with any cotton dye. It will hold its shape and can also be starched to extreme stiffness.
Wash dyed linens at 40°C; white and natural linens can be laundered at 60°C. Because this fabric is delicate, use the lowest spin cycle and do not machine dry; gentle handling will prolong your fabric’s lifespan. Iron on the highest setting; may also be steamed.
Generally, pre-shrinking is needed for linen, cotton, and rayon, but for finer fabrics (light rayon, Tencel and modal) proceed with care – don't use hot water or a hot iron, simply launder the fabric the way you will be laundering the completed garment.

Yes. Like other natural materials linen can fade in the sun. Avoid hanging dyed linen to dry in the sun and do not hang dyed linen garments in places at home where there is direct sunlight either. For curtains and drapes, take into account that the color will fade over time or back them with a blackout fabric.
