Product description
With its sophisticated matte surface, this Tencel satin is not as glossy as natural silk satin. It looks a bit like a cotton sateen but touch it and you’ll feel the difference. Tencel is extraordinarily soft as it is and this charmeuse is incredibly smooth. It also stretches slightly across the grain, which makes it comfortable to wear.
This medium weight satin will work best for light jackets or dresses and skirts. Make it into a flowing spring trench coat or a kimono, a pencil skirt or sheath dress, or maybe a casual tailored dress with a slim skirt or even a full, kicky skirt.
Tencel belongs to the rayon family and, like rayon, is made of natural, plant-based materials. In comparison to classic rayon, however, it is much more durable and many times eco-friendlier. Its manufacture produces minimal waste, making it an ecological choice. The water and other materials used in its production are nearly entirely recuperated and reused and, unlike cotton, it requires no pesticides.
Tencel is a trade name for lyocell and is identical.
Care
Wash at 30°C by hand or on your machine’s gentle cycle with a delicate detergent. Gentle handling will extend your fabric’s lifetime. Dry iron on a medium setting. Water marks can be washed out.
FAQ
What defects can I expect?
The type of defect present in seconds fabric is always listed in the product parameters. Usually they are minor flaws and defects that occur only in part of the role (typically at the beginning or end). That's why our discounted seconds usually include only smaller pieces, not entire rolls.
Are your fabrics colorfast?
The fabrics in our core inventory, seasonal collections and limited editions are from repeated production cycles that we have quality-tested – given proper care their colors should not bleed. Fabrics that are on offer while supplies last are one-off products that have not been individually tested. We recommend doing a sample test.
Should I pre-shrink fabric before sewing?
If we recommend pre-shrinking for a particular fabric, we generally say so in the product description. As a rule, pre-shrinking is needed for linen, cotton, and rayon, but for finer fabrics (light rayon, Tencel and modal) proceed with care – don't use hot water or a hot iron, simply launder the fabric the way you will be laundering the completed garment.
Can I put goods on hold?
Yes. If you plan to pick up the goods in person at our store in Prague, you can put them on hold through the e-shop – there's a link just below the price on the product page. We will hold items for you for one week.
Do you accept orders by phone or email?
No. We only accept retail orders through the e-shop. This eliminates situations where someone else orders the last of an item while your order is still sitting in our inbox or lies jotted on a bit of paper by the phone. By purchasing online, you are putting an immediate hold on the product. Of course, you can always call or write to us if you need help making your selection.
