This plain-weave linen fabric is a versatile choice for clothing and home decor as well as Japanese sashiko and other crafts. It is a medium weight, great for apparel like skirts, trousers, and summer jackets, and makes beautiful curtains and pillowcases too. Aside from modern garments, classic linen is 100% natural, so it’s suitable for authentic period costumes (dresses, tunics, leggings).
Linen is sturdy and resilient, naturally breathable, and easy to care for.
This linen has been dyed with natural indigo for the same deep, dark blue that has been worn for millennia. You’ll find indigo everywhere from ancient India to Japanese sashiko, Bohemian folklore prints, and denim jeans.
Today’s fabrics are usually dyed with synthetic indigo, but now you have a unique opportunity to take home a fabric with thousands of years of tradition behind it. A perfect choice for slow fashion.

Linen is sturdy, resilient, breathable, and easy to care for. Caring for indigo-dyed linen is practically the same as for any other dyed linen: wash with similarly colored items and don’t dry in direct sunlight — that’s because dyed natural fabrics have a tendency to fade. Most importantly, indigo has a tendency to bleed, especially at the beginning, just like a new pair of jeans.
For indigo linen, wash warm (40°C) and expect the color to bleed, so wash with similar colors. Iron on the cotton setting; may also be steamed. Dry in a shady spot to prevent fading. If machine drying, use a short, gentle cycle.
Generally, pre-shrinking is needed for linen, cotton, and rayon, but for finer fabrics (light rayon, Tencel and modal) proceed with care – don't use hot water or a hot iron, simply launder the fabric the way you will be laundering the completed garment.
The fabrics in our core inventory, seasonal collections and limited editions are from repeated production cycles that we have quality-tested – given proper care their colors should not bleed. Fabrics that are on offer while supplies last are one-off products that have not been individually tested. For flax and wool, we recommend a sample test.
Yes. Like other natural materials linen can fade in the sun. Avoid hanging dyed linen to dry in the sun and do not hang dyed linen garments in places at home where there is direct sunlight either. For curtains and drapes, take into account that the color will fade over time or back them with a blackout fabric.
Most of our fabrics are one-time offers that last until they are sold out. However, some more popular items are always restocked or can be ordered on request. As a rule, this applies to notions, where the selection is pretty consistent, but may also include some types of fabric. Look at the product's availability value – it shows whether the goods are available while supplies last, in the core inventory or in a seasonal collection.
