Silk blend brocade woven with silver, inspired by a historical pattern from the medieval period. A good choice for authentic historical costuming and decorations as well as modern interiors and contemporary fashions. Stunning brocade made of genuine silk and rayon with a woven pattern.
In the 13th century Persia joined the great empire of Mongols which made it the first country on an open export route to adopt new Chinese styles. The once influential silk art of Islam played this time only a role of intermediary passing the trends of Chinese fashion to Italy. Silks in the East always influenced those made further west, occasionally vice versa. In this brocade we can see both.
The pointed ovals were adopted from Chinese silks and strongly transformed the style of Persian and later Ottoman textiles.
Chinese are also the mirrored qilins, symbol of prosperity or serenity, and composite bouquets while the surrounding grape leaves are unmistakably Italian.
The whole pattern is connected by Arabic inscription containing words "The Sultan, the Wise" a titling of the Mameluke Sultans.
The original belonged to the Museum of Decorative Arts in Berlin, but it was lost in the World War II.
This pattern reconstruction is the intellectual property of SARTOR BOHEMIA.
This historical fabric is a silver-woven brocade with real silk, an eye-catcher in brilliant hues with different weaves alternating to produce a tactile surface that delights the touch. The Jacquard weave features a pure silk warp and a weft of rayon and silver lurex. The use of premium materials yields a brocade that is sturdy yet soft, fine to the touch, and breathable.
Reproductions of period brocades such as this are perfect for sewing historical costumes and also bring something special to modern interiors or contemporary fashions.
We recommend lining this brocade with a natural material that breathes, such as silk lining or fine linen.
We recommend dry cleaning this fabric at a reliable dry cleaner. Iron on the back side on a synthetic setting.
Rarely! We produce reproductions of historical fabrics as limited editions. We want to guarantee a certain authenticity to all owners of historical costumes and decorations. We recommend that you buy these fabrics while they are in stock, as this is the only way to secure them for your project aside from custom ordering.
Limited editions are fabrics of exceptional quality or patterns that have been designed and produced exclusively under the Sartor brand. As a rule, they do not repeat and are therefore only available while supplies last. Don't miss your chance to own a true original.
The minimum fabric order is a length of 20 cm.
Of course! Historical patterns are characterized by high-quality aesthetic workmanship with an emphasis on elegance and harmony, which make them timeless works of art. They are suitable for modern interiors, where they bring an element of originality (try a picture, a pillow). In fashion, they excel in simple, even minimalist, garments, handbags and other accessories.
