Japanese sashiko fabric - Sartor Bohemia shades of white

Sashiko is a Japanese needlework technique. Choose a traditional, indigo-dyed plain weave that will give you freedom to sketch your pattern, or reach for quality fabrics made in Japan with pre-printed templates of traditional patterns that wash out in warm water. For best results, use original sashiko thread – it is not tightly twisted and is not mercerized, both qualities that lend sashiko its distinctive appearance. You’ll find it easier to work with a Japanese sashiko needle in hand – it won’t bend and has just the right length.
