Product description

Product description

A soft yet sturdy fabric made from very fine, premium, 100% virgin wool. It’s the classic go-to for suits and also great for dressmaking or for a blazer, skirt, or trousers.

Wool flannel

This fabric, made from pure virgin wool, is a classic wool flannel in a smooth, medium-weight weave with a finely brushed surface. Not to be confused with cotton flannel; the nap on the surface is practically invisible, yet gives the fabric a lovely, touchable softness.

Our flannel is woven from pure super-fine virgin wool, which is so soft that it can be worn directly against the skin. You can confidently use it for garments with unlined sections, like collar or sleeves, with no worries about itching at all.

The dense weave in a broken twill, or herringbone, pattern, makes the fabric is strong helps it retain its shape. And wool is one natural material that is virtually wrinkle free.

Why choose 100% wool

Classic wool fabrics are finding their way back into our wardrobes, and rightly so. Pure wool has a number of natural advantages and, with the right care, can be very durable.

  • Unlike all the wool blends on the market, which include a large percentage of polyester, pure wool is truly breathable, so it won’t leave you sweating.
  • Wool keeps you warm in winter, but because it breathes, you’ll still be comfortable when temperatures rise. The same cannot be said of synthetic fabrics.
  • Wool is self cleaning, so for routine care, all you need is a brush, steam and air.
  • Wool is biodegradable, so once it has reached the end of its useful life, it won’t turn into eternal landfill.

What makes virgin wool superior

Virgin wool comes from new, unprocessed fibers. These tend to be longer and stronger than recycled wool fibers. The result is a strong, durable, long-lasting fabric that is pleasant to the touch. (It’s the short, broken fibers that make wool so scratchy.)

If you are looking for a fabric that will serve you well for years to come, premium virgin wool is an excellent choice.

What to use it for

Lightweight wool is a classic suiting material and before the advent of synthetic fibers it formed a large part of our wardrobe. It’s perfect for a range of garments.

  • Men’s suits
  • Women’s slacks
  • Skirts
  • Dresses
  • And, yes, little black dresses too
  • Blazers
  • Jackets

Use this fine wool fabric to sew a pencil skirt, an elegant pair of slacks, or a winter suit skirt or experiment with making a light coat or a simple sheath dress.

Practical tips

This fabric can be reinforced and shaped with a steam iron.

Our wool suiting is easy to cut and sew and forgives little mistakes, but you should have a basic idea of how to work with wool.

  • Before cutting, temper the fabric by steaming (press with a steam iron or through a damp cloth).
  • Always press from the wrong side to avoid leaving shiny patches on the face.
  • Make chalk marks only on the wrong side, or mark with pins or tailor tacks.

For wool fabrics it’s a good idea to use a lining of silk, acetate, cupro, or rayon to preserve breathability in the final garment.

Care

We recommend dry cleaning this wool fabric at a reliable dry cleaner. If construction of the final garment allows, may be washed by hand or by machine on the woolens program; use a special detergent for woolens; wash at a low temperature (30°C) with the spin cycle switched off.

Wool garments do not need to be ironed; simply hang on a good hanger while damp to dry. When sewing, iron only from the wrong side using the wool setting.

FAQ

Should fabric be washed before sewing?

If we recommend pre-shrinking the fabric before sewing we usually say so in the product description. Let the recommended care notes in the fabric description be your guide – they will tell you if the fabric can be washed or steam ironed. Woolen fabrics are usually pre-shrunk by steaming from the back. Some fabrics should be dry cleaned only. For larger projects or more expensive fabrics, we recommend testing anything (washing, ironing, etc.) on a sample. Wool is a natural material and is never absolutely predictable.

Is your product assortment always the same?

Most of our fabrics are one-time offers that last until they are sold out. However, some more popular items are always restocked or can be ordered on request. As a rule, this applies to notions, where the selection is pretty consistent, but may also include some types of fabric. Look at the product's availability value – it shows whether the goods are available while supplies last, in the core inventory or in a seasonal collection.

What is a seasonal collection?

The goods in the seasonal collection come directly from our verified manufacturers. We change up the colors on offer from season to season but fabric quality is always constant. For large (wholesale) orders, colors that have been sold out can be reordered individually.

What is the smallest amount of fabric I can order?

The minimum fabric order is a length of 20 cm.

Do you accept orders by phone or email?

No. We only accept retail orders through the e-shop. This eliminates situations where someone else orders the last of an item while your order is still sitting in our inbox or lies jotted on a bit of paper by the phone. By purchasing online, you are putting an immediate hold on the product. Of course, you can always call or write to us if you need help making your selection.

Do you ship abroad?

Yes. We ship worldwide. The price of shipping is automatically calculated at checkout before payment after you select the country of delivery and the preferred carrier. If you do not find your country in the dropdown list, please contact us. You will find a rough overview of shipping costs in our shipping and payment terms.

When will my order be delivered?

The estimated delivery date with your selected carrier can be seen before payment is made at checkout. It is calculated as the time for processing and packing your order plus the time it takes the selected carrier to deliver to a specific destination – this can be from 2 days for delivery within the Czech Republic to a week for delivery outside the EU. Expect longer delivery times during big sales and holidays.
