Spun silk is made of thread spun from the short silk filaments left over from classic silk production, so in a way it’s actually made of “waste” (and is sometimes referred to as waste silk) but it would be a big mistake to call it second rate. Spun silk fabrics are soft, comfortable, and easier to care for than classic silk. Many silk spun fabrics have an attractive, rustic look and interesting, nubby surface.
