Product description

Product description

This crimson linen is a versatile material for clothing and home decor. This classic, medium linen is great for kerchiefs, skirts, trousers, and summer jackets, and performs well in curtains and pillowcases too. It lends itself to modern garments, and really comes into its own in period costumes (dresses, tunics, leggings). It is sturdy and resilient, breathes well, and is easy to care for. Our linens are softened, making them smooth and pleasant to the touch, without any of the itchy roughness typical for other linen fabrics.

Linen will shrink, so it’s a good idea to wash it before cutting. To prevent fading, dyed linens should not be dried in direct sunlight.

Care

Wash dyed linens at 40°C; white and natural linens can be laundered at 60°C. Iron on the highest setting; may also be steamed. If machine drying, use a short, gentle cycle.

FAQ

Should I pre-shrink this fabric before sewing?

Generally, pre-shrinking is needed for linen, cotton, and rayon, but for finer fabrics (light rayon, Tencel and modal) proceed with care – don't use hot water or a hot iron, simply launder the fabric the way you will be laundering the completed garment.

Are your fabrics colorfast?

The fabrics in our core inventory, seasonal collections and limited editions are from repeated production cycles that we have quality-tested – given proper care their colors should not bleed. Fabrics that are on offer while supplies last are one-off products that have not been individually tested. For flax and wool, we recommend a sample test.

Does linen fade in the sun?

Yes. Like other natural materials linen can fade in the sun. Avoid hanging dyed linen to dry in the sun and do not hang dyed linen garments in places at home where there is direct sunlight either. For curtains and drapes, take into account that the color will fade over time or back them with a blackout fabric.
