Genuine 100% flax linen thread (weight Tex 20x3) is a bit thicker than ordinary general-purpose thread but is finer and softer than unbleached thread. It is good for hand and machine sewing of medium-coarse materials. For machine sewing use a no. 90/14 to 100/16 needle. Machine sewing with linen thread is not something we recommend for novices.
Linen thread is especially well-suited for sewing historically accurate period costumes. Thread made of linen was widely used before the introduction of cotton thread in the nineteenth century.
Linen thread can be laundered at 60°C and ironed on high. When caring for garments sewn with linen thread, follow care guidelines for the fabric used.
