Traditional Alençon lace (it originated in Alençon, France) was extremely labor-intensive, with the lace maker working one loop at a time. Our version is manufactured on a traditional machine using a special process, so its maximum piece length is under three meters. Each motif is outlined in a thicker cord, lending Alençon a sensual, three-dimensional feel.
At first glance, Alençon is difficult to distinguish from corded lace. The difference lies in how they are made. Where corded lace is essentially embroidered tulle, the delicate motifs of Alençon lace are actually woven in using a complex Jacquard technique.
Alençon lace is a perfect match for wedding and bridal fashions; with its richly detailed design it adds a level of luxury to any gown. Use it as the full outer shell with an under layer of satin, silk serge, , dupioni, duchesse, or taffeta. Or feature it on the bodice, sleeves, in applique, or as a detail on a veil or hat. It is also an elegant touch for a formal gown, cocktail dress, or dressy clutch.
Care
Hand wash this lace only at 30°C. Handle very gently, do not squeeze or wring dry. Do not machine dry. Hang or lay flat to dry. Iron on the lowest setting (synthetics).
