Real silk satin has a high luster that is noticeably more refined than its synthetic imitators. Aside from looking great, it’s a very pleasant fabric – soft, breathable, and silky smooth against the skin. This heavier silk satin has a fuller, even lusher hand than ordinary silk satin. It outlines curves beautifully without betraying little imperfections or bra and panty lines. It is also entirely opaque, even in lighter shades.
Heavy silk satin drapes beautifully in soft, full folds. This is a luxury fabric that absolutely looks the part. Show it off in flowing, draped garments, dresses and tops cut on the bias, formal gowns, and wedding dresses. Showcase this chic satin with patterns that highlight its amazing drape – the elegant gowns of Hollywood’s golden age are a perfect example.
If you want a stiffer satin that holds its shape, try our silk duchesse. If you need a translucent overlayer to pair with heavy satin, fine chiffon is a perfect choice.
We recommend dry cleaning this fabric at a reliable dry cleaner. In our silk washing tests this fabric stood up to gentle hand washing. If you risk hand washing, use lukewarm water and a delicate detergent for silks/woolens; do not wring or squeeze dry; block dry on a flat surface. Dry iron on the lowest setting. Avoid water droplets.
